Daybreakers [Blu-ray]

Lionsgate Home Entertainment has announced  releases of Daybreakers for the 11th May. Extras will include audio commentary with the directors and special effects creator Steve Boyle, a "Making of Daybreakers" featurette, a poster gallery and the theatrical trailer. The Blu-ray release will also include an extended feature-length version of the "Making of Daybreakers" that spans the filmmaking process, a short film from the directors entitled "The Big Picture," a Storyboard and Animatics film comparison and a second disc containing digital copy.

Avatar Blu-ray Officially Announced

After weeks of speculation and rumors, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment has officially announced Avatar on Blu-ray. As James Cameron himself revealed a month ago, the release date has been set for Thursday, April 22 (Earth Day). In a first for a major theatrical release on Blu-ray, the studio will go Superbit on James Cameron's megablockbuster and release it without any special features of any sort, in order to maximize audio and video quality. A DVD will be included with the BD.

Avatar producer Jon Landau explained to the Los Angeles Times that they told Fox that "we wanted to do something really special and reach for the best presentation of any film in the history of the format." Landau adds, "Everything that is put on a disc takes up room – the menus, the extras, the trailers and studio promotions – and we got rid of all of that so we could give this movie the best picture and sound possible." Extra time and care have been devoted to this project, with the video compression sessions taking six weeks, as opposed to the usual two weeks for a typical theatrical release.

A multidisc "ultimate version" Blu-ray is planned for November. Details will be given during a press event in March 23, which will be attended by Landau and Cameron.

Regarding a 3D release, Fox sources again denied reports that it would come out later this year. The Digital Bits hazards a guess that it will probably come "in a third dip a year or two from now", once there is a market for 3D on Blu-ray.

Avatar Blu-ray Detailed, Gets 1.78:1 Video

Release details have begun to surface regarding the upcoming Blu-ray edition of Avatar. Not regarding the special features (as there will be none), but the audio and video presentation. An interesting development is that the feature aspect ratio of this edition will be 1.78:1, as seen in most 3D theatrical projections.

Months before the theatrical release of the movie, James Cameron informed that Avatar was being shot in "a 16:9 ratio." 3D theatrical exhibition would be in 1.78:1 in the theaters that could project it at that ratio; for 2D theatrical exhibition, a cinemascope-ratio (2.39:1) picture was being extracted from the 1.78:1 frame.

Cameron explained: "I actually think that the extra screen height really works well in 3D. It really pulls you through the screen. So I'm actually going back on years of kind of eschewing the kind of 1.85 format, now saying 1.85 – or actually, it's 1.78:1 – actually works really well in 3D. But only in 3D. I still like the scope ratio compositionally for flat projection."

Ultimately, 1.78:1 is also being used for the Blu-ray (which, at least in this edition, is only 2D). Note that, as the picture was originally shot in 1.78:1, no image information is being lost; on the contrary, the 1.78:1 frame shows more information on the top and bottom than the scope-ratioed image.

Audio will be presented in 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio for the original soundtrack only. Localized dub tracks will be encoded in lossy audio (DTS or Dolby Digital, depending on the territory).

Есть еще вариант брать через конторы дающие амер. адрес (реальный!). Далее они шлют куда угодно, хоть в Зимбабве.

НО, это годится для легких позиций, т.к. они используют DHL/FedEx и цена начинает жутко расти с увеличением веса.
Вариант конечно не из бюджетных, но рабочий на 100% и годится для любых шопов.

ПС. Если BestBuy шлет в Европу, то можно организовать вариант подешевле. Короче все надо проверять, стоит ли овчинка выделки.

Warner Home Video has announced the release of the latest movie directed by Clint Eastwood, Invictus, which will street on May 18 in a Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Copy combo edition.
